Problem :
Here, I work as an online editor. I also attended the set and the shooting process. One thing I was acutely aware of was the noise. Since we were shooting on a public location, noise is undoubtedly one of our biggest enemies. Furthermore, the set was relatively cramped in some places, making it impossible to position the lighting properly, resulting in poor lighting in some scenes.
Solution :
I implemented quite good audio mixing for this project, with the music perfectly placed in the right places, allowing the audience to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the video. Furthermore, the audio from the footage itself was deliberately kept natural so the audience could experience the atmosphere of the set.
Any lighting issues were handled well through color grading and correction, from balancing and correction to creating the look itself.
Challenge :
The biggest challenges were the audio and the lighting of the shoot itself. Therefore, I had to focus more on the audio, as there aren't really any particularly challenging aspects of a documentary film other than the cutting and audio.
And in terms of color grading, the poorly lit footage presented a challenge for me, as I was still learning color grading and correction.
Summary :
"Behind the Study Desk" is a documentary short film submitted for a national student film festival competition. The film explores the challenges of students struggling to earn a living and meet their educational needs.
This film won several film festival competitions and awards, including:
-First place at the Fourtysy Film Festival SMKN 47 Jakarta.
-Best Documentary, Best Editing, and Best Story at the 2024 Tebas Award.
